Coaching
Hi there, my name is Darran Ferre and I have been a full time tennis pro for 16 years.
I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to Phuket Sports & Tennis Club
where I am the resident tennis coach.
I am originally from England but I have trained and taught in places
ranging from Japan, America and Bahrain.
At Phuket Sports & Tennis Club I run an academy for children of all ages and abilities.
I cater for adults privately.
Future plans include video analysis and tournaments too.
We are currently in the process of building a database of players across the island
to be able to match players of the same standard to have fun and competitive games.
If a particular shot is making you see red
I can design a tailor made lesson to meet your needs.
We can get right that awkward shot or just have a leisurely knock.
Not played for a while? No problem, no pressure here.
Learn the game in the right sequence.
1. Co-ordination, to catch and throw is so important.
It´s the fundamental ingredient of many sports.
2. Control & Power, first learn how to put the ball where you want it,
then at a controlled speed. Now gradually increase the speed.
When you have control you will feel more relaxed and comfortable with the ball.
Your aim is to feel this way all the time.
Power comes from relaxed movement, timing and weight transference.
3. Movement. In the computer age the lack of this is becoming our biggest problem.
For our sequence, movement linked with technique with foundation of control
will become a rock solid base from which to produce a tennis player.
4. Technique. Surprised it´s so far down the list?? With the above ingredients in place
all shots become so much easier to learn and perfect. I did say all shot´s.
You can learn the technique of any shot within 1 hour. The level of your co-ordination,
control and movement will decide how quickly you will perfect it.
5. Consistency. You did it once... means you did it once. Do it again and again and again.
Practise makes perfect and consistency means a big headache for your opponents.
6. Mental Strength. You should try and become a mental giant,
be mentally tough and have good concentration.
7. Tactics. You will learn tactics during every game at every level that you attain
and you will then naturally look at each game with a "how do I deal with this" attitude.
Go Play Tennis!!!! Remember! Winning is a habit, it´s a nice one to have.
Anger is only one letter short of danger. Be gracious in defeat and victory.
I will look forward to welcoming you on the court.
