October 2008:
Apologies for the delay but our policy of "doing it" rather than talking about it
means that we have been very busy ensuring everything is in place
for the coming high season.
This coupled with the departure for Australia of our illustrious leader
late this October for a month has meant we haven’t been able
to devote as much time as we wished to promotion or current news.
Upon his return, be ready for a whole new range of information,
organized tournaments and commissioning of the archery range.
Tennis;
We are pleased to announce the arrival of our new tennis coach
and sporting director, Harrison Field.
We doubt there is any person better on this planet
to lead our tennis and competitive sports programs.
Recently arrived from Las Vegas, himself being coached by the late,
great, Harry Hopman of Australian Davis Cup fame.
He’s a close working associate of Darren Cahill; TV commentator,
the former coach of Lleyton Hewitt and Andre Agassi
and possible coach to Roger Federer for the 2009 season.
In addition, he’s had the opportunity to play/coach throughout Europe,
working with many Top Players as Juniors
including (Justine Henin & Kim Clijsters among others).
He is responsible for the design and application for the current programs
now being used by another pair of associate legends,
Andre Agassi and Steffi Graf in their Family Tennis Centers Worldwide.
He brings with him over 30 years of teaching experience
together with the latest techniques, to assist you whether it be
starting from scratch, improving your present game,
coaching your kids or simply having a hit with a true professional.
His experience is international; his "check bin" is local.
This guy is good, not only for us, but you, our patrons.
He has meticulously checked out all tennis courts available
to the general public here in Phuket and has chosen to make this his home base,
biased by the fact that that we have the best court available
in the most convivial and relaxing surroundings
with a low key, yet high standard, family atmosphere.
Welcome aboard Harrison.

Latest members;
Mid October we had the pleasure to welcome our latest member #208,
the current Formula 1 World Champion, Kimi Raikkonen,
for a few games of tennis with his associates (he plays a pretty good game).
Kimi has bought a beachfront penthouse apartment within walking distance
of our club and we look forward to further visits in between his busy schedule.
Check our gallery for the pic’s.
Welcome Kimi and others that have joined.
Fishing;
The fishing lake is up and running with many good catches being landed.
Our policy is to supply all equipment, tackle and the correct bait
so that we can guarantee you that, if you do not catch a fish, you will owe us nothing!
More species of good fighting fish are being introduced on a regular basis.
We will be organizing a tournament in the near future
with good cash prizes so stay tuned for the dates.
Beach Volleyball;
November sees the return of the FVIB World Ladies Beach Volleyball Competition Tour
to be held on Karon Beach between Nov. 4th. – 9th.
Please give this event your unrivalled support and we wish all competitors every success.
We are pleased to offer our court to anyone who wishes to use it
5 days prior to and including the dates of this event this event FREE of charge
to assist in the promotion of this exciting, enjoyable game.
Naturally preference of court times will be given to local and visiting teams
in the competition but by simply being here you may have the chance
to meet with some of the world’s best players.

The Races;
Unfortunately and unexpectedly, the boss will be away during the running
of the Melbourne cup on November 4th, so the Melbourne Cup Carnival
here that we had tentatively planned will have to wait to next year.…
Never mind, C’mon down for a glass of whatever, gin’s handbag,
we even have Victoria Bitter and other equally famous beers,
a plate of nibbles, and watch the race live on our wide screen TV.
Starting at 09:00 first race is the Schweppes Tonic 1000 followed by the Lexus Cup
and culminating with the greatest horse race of all time,
The 2008 Melbourne Cup.
Maybe one or two of our members may have a Toad Race organized
to keep in harmony with the spirit of the day and make it one to remember.
For those of you that over indulge we have at your disposal the "Booze Bus" to get you home.
Pick up your keys, located next to the gun rack in the bar, the next day.
So probably now is the time to report the results of the toad race
held here just before the Naked Ladies volleyball match on Sat 11th.
Bidding was slow on the first few "horses" but finished up with a top bid
of 750B for what was a bit of a dark horse, "Mothers Ruin"
which started at the good odds of 9-1.
The end result was that the smallest "horse" in the field "Iron Mike",
found in our workshop, living on a diet of iron filings and sawdust,
and sold for the bargain price of 500B to a local lady, Pueng,
seemed to attract the betting attention of all the other local ladies.
Tony, the dumb mug, running the "book" couldn’t keep up with the betting frenzy
and as a result Iron Mike started at 5-2 (should have been 3-1 on).
Don’t have to tell you the result, yep "Mike" simply bolted, crossed the line
30 lengths ahead of 2nd. place "Cunning Stunts" with 3rd. place
going to "Phuckwitt" and won Pueng and all the other local ladies
with enough sense to follow the leader, a nice tidy sum.
Punters won, the bookies lost, but some proceeds were raised
and went to the charity of the day, Ao Chalong Yacht Club building program
which is helping local children to learn and enjoy the many aspects of sailing.
The evening was capped by the enjoyment of a roast ‘local lamb on the spit’ B.B.Q.
prepared by one of our members and boat builder of distinction, Roger Diddleman.
Thanks Roger, ‘dumb’ Tony and to all of those who helped make the day a great success.
Toad races, way to go, yeh yeh!
That’s all for now, gotta get on flight JQ 28. I’m sittin’ in the back seat,
‘cause planes don’t back into mountains. More if and when I get back.
Cheers ‘n’ beers, if you’ve been here b/4, please come again,
if not, check it out, you won’t be disappointed.
‘D’ Boss.
